Bird of Paradise Tea was started in May of 2006 by husband-and-wife team Maya Madden and Wayne Farra. Jewelers by trade, their love affair with tea began when a friend invited them to attend the International Tea Expo. As they cruised the aisles, tasting wonderful teas from all over the world, they began to assemble a collection of teas to offer at the "Bird Of Paradise Tea" store in Spring Green, WI, jewelry and gift shop. Bird of Paradise was chosen as the name for the new enterprise because the first two leaves and bud of the tea bush (most valued) resembled the Bird of Paradise flower.
In late 2013 the No Rules Gallery and Bird of Paradise Tea businesses were sold by the Farras and purchased by Janet Haight.
Many of our customers are new to tea drinking and we enjoy educating our patrons on brewing methods, origins of teas, and how to choose a tea. We carefully choose the finest quality and most requested teas for our patrons. Our shop features a daily tea sampling, and all teas are stored in stainless steel, airtight containers to maintain the freshest tea available.
In the fall of 2007, Bird of Paradise went online. It is our desire to make Bird of Paradise Tea available to a wider audience. Comments and questions are welcomed – we enjoy “talking tea” with novices and connoisseurs alike!
